John Albert Odell, the youngest child of John and Sarah Odell, was born on the 25th of November, 1844, in Carroll County, Indiana. He was six years old when his family set out across the plains bound for Oregon in the spring of 1851.
John married Martha Amy Lee in May of 1866. Martha came from the prominent Lee family of nearby Dallas, Oregon.
John & Martha had four children, three of whom survived to adulthood. Their first child, a boy, died soon after his birth in January of 1868. He is buried in an unmarked grave in the Odell Pioneer Cemetery.
John was employed as an insurance agent for the Oregon Fire Relief Association for 26 years, and died from heart trouble at the age of 74.
At the home of H.C. Farnsworth near this city on Saturday night, Albert Odell expired from heart trouble at the age of 74 years and 20 days. He recently closed up his business with W.L. Warren. He had been connected with Oregon Fire Relief Association as agent for 26 years.The funeral was held at Tilbury Chapel and burial was in Odell Cemetery. Mr. Odell leaves a wife, Mrs. Martha Odell, two sons, Albert and Frank, a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Humphrey of Dayton, and two brothers, George and W.H. Odell
