Ida Elizabeth Coovert Harris was born on the 28th of January, 1858, to parents Abram and Martha Ann Coovert.
In 1887 Ida married her neighbor, Newton A. Harris. Newton emigrated with his family from Kansas to Oregon in 1863, and settled in the Webfoot area in 1875. Newton was the grandson of Hiram W. and Maria Peery, and was the nephew of Hiram Wilson Peery.
The couple had three daughters: Gladys, Wanda, and Winona. Many sources list Gladys and Wanda as both being born in 1899, but in differing months. Further research will hopefully clarify whether or not Gladys and Wanda were twins, or if the birth years have been incorrectly recorded.
Ida died in 1906. Newton remarried, and died eleven years later after a fall from the loft in his barn. He is buried in the Oddfellows’ Cemetery in nearby Dayton.
